Welcome to ‘Alana Ke Aloha —
the Krause Family Foundation

‘Alana Ke Aloha — The Krause Family Foundation (KFF): Supports efforts to improve literacy, educational, economic, and career opportunities for children, youth, and adults.

We work in Hawai'i (Pacific Islands) and Southern California with communities to build skills to generate fresh ideas and discover opportunities for real-world application and innovation. Through collaborative initiatives with our community partners, we work toward strategic outcomes that reflect a healthy planet and happier lives.

Our Core

We are committed to helping youth and families break down barriers to education and employment. We emphasize the value and respect sustaining family, social capital, culture and language.

We support underserved youth

Meet The New Authors

Molokai has eight new, published authors with their book “Ho’ohui Maika’i: an Anthology.” The work is a collection of Molokai women’s stories told through the context of food, culture and identity.

Funded through a grant from the Hawaii Council for the Humanities and organized by the Krause Family Foundation – ‘Alana Ke Aloha, the book is the result of writing workshops held throughout the past year.

Ho’oHui Maika’i: An Anthology

Ho'ohui Maika'i, can be translated as "good combination." Experiencing various combinations, we are Molokai women on our journeys to knowing ourselves. Our focus is on our experiences of "mixedness" (including diverse cultures, ethnicities, races, languages, and religions) and our food practices (including gathering, preparing, eating, and sustaining).

As women, we are a major influential force in our families and community. When we deeply connect to our past lineage and stories about who we are and want to be, we can transform our lives, our family community, and, eventually, the larger community and society.
